Disaster Management

SUMANAHALLI Society has been getting involved in disaster management as and when required and possible. We have always looked beyond the campus to be with people who suffer in disasters.

SUMANAHALLI’s first experience was with Tsunami in 2004. We moved to Cuddalore immediately and worked for relief work. Then we proceed to rehabilitation work in seven villages.

We built 150 houses for the families that lost their houses. We were the first to send the fishermen back to sea with new boats in Maduvappalam village on the 23rd day. We provided about 100 boats to different villages later on.

We went on to build a market place, a school, and various other places for the resettlement of the people. We worked for over two years in Cuddalore.

Fr Philomen Das was our main support in Cuddalore. He allowed us to stay and work from his Church premises. We worked in coordination with the Government and various other agencies in the process.

Later on when the floods happened in North Karnataka, we got involved with Bellary District and we built 16 houses.

SUMANAHALLI was also involved with the floods in Chennai and in Coorg.

While we struggle to survive and live, the staff and inmates at Sumanahalli always respond to situations of disasters anywhere anytime.
