In 2003, SUMANAHALLI was honored as the top Non-Governmental Organization in India for creating job opportunities for people with disabilities linked to leprosy, presented by the President of India. In 1989, Sr. Mary Mascarenhas received the Best Placement Officer award in India from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, awarded by the President. Eight rehabilitated individuals won national-level Best Employee awards from the Government of India.
Facilitating job placements for individuals affected by leprosy is not just an employment initiative; it is a powerful means of fostering inclusivity and dismantling societal stigmas. Offering vocational training programs tailored to their skills and preferences enhances their employability. Furthermore, collaboration with support organizations can help create a supportive work environment, ensuring a smooth transition and addressing any concerns or misconceptions. Through these efforts, we not only provide financial stability but also empower leprosy patients to regain their independence, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging in the workforce, contributing to the broader goal of social integration and eliminating discrimination based on health conditions.
The SUMANAHALLI society will recommend suitable cases for jobs under various Government Schemes, which have reserved seats for the persons affected by leprosy.
Supported the job placement of 1,001 individuals, paving the way for enhanced opportunities and livelihoods.
